Come with Us to Iceland…
Hey friends and family, the France trip blog in 2023 was a hit, so I’m gonna take a whack at doing one for our trip to Iceland. It’s been three years since I did any blogging, so we’ll see if I can overcome the learning curve and the limited technology at my disposal on the road. Apologies in advance—there will be no spell checking and I will be posting from my phone. That’s live action for you.
It promises to be a good time. We’ll be covering about 800 miles by van, ferry, and horseback. Highlights include waterfalls, black sand beaches, geothermal pools, little bitty towns, whale watching, puffins, northern lights, cod fishing, food tours, and lots of beer.
It got really hot and smoky here in mid July, with only a few days of respite. I put the weather forecast for Reykjavik on my phone as a teaser. When it was 98 here, the highs in Iceland were in the 50s, with lows in the 40s. Aaaaaaah. Just seeing that was enough to give me hope. It was tough to pack rain gear, fleece, waterproof gloves, wool base layers, etc. while wearing shorts and sandals.
Where is this magical land? It’s NORTH, baby. Kisses the bottom of the Arctic Circle. Farther north than Stockholm or Oslo and pretty similar to Nome, Alaska. Coincidently, it’s about the same lattitude as the town my greatgrands come from in Norway—Trondheim.
We land in Reykjavik, Iceland on August 26 and then take a puddle jumper even further north to Akureyri. Then we can relax.
I’ll post highlights and pictures to give you a tast of what we are experiencing. Hopefully, it will be entertaining. Feel free to ask questions. Maybe you’ll want to take your own trip.
Oh, I reactivated the France blog temporarily, so you can take another look at the Mediterranean in winter.
